Contracts have been issued by the Government for the development of new mosques in Alifu Alifu Mathiveri and Dhaalu Atoll Rin’Budhoo.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs awarded K&F Holdings Pvt Ltd the contract to build a 500-capacity mosque in Mathiveri, which will include a prayer hall, library, and classroom. Similarly, Afami Maldives Pvt Ltd has been tasked with constructing a mosque of the same capacity in Rin’Budhoo, also featuring a prayer hall, a library, and a classroom.
Boat mosques are designed to be environmentally sustainable, powered by solar energy, air-conditioned, and equipped with a dedicated prayer space for women will also be included.
In line with the Government's plans, all new mosque projects will now incorporate classrooms and libraries to strengthen islamic education through Quran classes, religious studies, and other community activities.
Nationwide, the state continues to implement mosque development projects, ranging from new builds to the resumption of previously stalled initiatives, many of which are further supported in part by community contributions.
