The remaining construction works of the apartment complex, “The Gardens” developed by Jaah Investment Company in Hulhumale’ are expected to be completed by the end of this month, according to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC).

In June last year, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), awarded an MVR 20 million contract to complete the remaining works of The Gardens project in Hulhumale’ Phase 1 to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction. While the four-month contract period ended on October 2, work continues at the site.

Originally undertaken by Jaah Investment Pvt Ltd in 2017 with a two-year completion target, the project encountered repeated delays for over 8 years eventually drawing concern from apartment buyers.

Speaking with “Mihaaru” news, RCC Chairman Mohamed Nazim said “When we took over, around 30 percent of the work remained incomplete. We had to resume and complete all the work that was left which has been a significant task”.

A senior official from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said the practical construction work began later than planned due to administrative delays. The HDC official said, “We’re aware that some areas of the project required redesigning. Since the development was left idle for several years, certain adjustments had to be made”.

RCC Chairman Nazim, expressed confidence that all remaining works would be completed within the month.

In October 2023, HDC announced that finishing works, including plastering, putty, woodwork, and ceiling installations had commenced on all floors below the 10th level of the complex. At the time, the corporation stated that all remaining works would be completed within six months.

Once completed, The Gardens apartment complex will feature 83 apartments, including 2+1,3, and 3+1 units. Most of the units have already been sold.
