HDC marks 21 years of Hulhumalé with exciting celebrations spanning one week. ‘My Hulhumalé Festival’ will be held from 10th May to 17th May 2025, bringing together families and groups of friends living in Hulhumalé for a fun-filled celebration.
With a wide range of activities scheduled across the week, the event will cater to various age groups. My Hulhumalé Festival will include a photography competition, a family carnival, a health camp, a Hulhumalé story photo walk, a Hulhumalé discount week, and a beach festival. HDC is to organize a fishing competition and cycling championship tournament as well, ensuring an array of exciting events for all.
The Hulhumalé Project was initially launched in 1997 by the former President of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom in order to combat the increasing population and solve the housing issues in the capital city of Malé.
After the reclamation of the island, Hulhumalé was first inhabited by people on 12th May 2025. Over the last two decades, Hulhumalé has expanded, providing social housing for approximately 314,000 people.
