According to Regional Airports, the newly developed airport is now open to domestic carriers Maldivian, Villa Air and Manta Air. The first test flight landed on April 25 following the completion of major construction works.

The government had initially planned to open the airport by the end of April or early May, but the launch was pushed back without any official explanation.

The project began under the previous administration, with terminal construction originally set to start in August 2021 and operations expected by mid-2023. But like many large-scale developments, delays shifted the timeline.

Muli Airport is the first facility of its kind in Meemu Atoll. Built at a cost of MVR 221 million, it includes a 1,200 metre long, 30 metre wide runway and is expected to significantly boost accessibility and economic activity in the region.
