President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Thursday that road development near the official jetty in Malé will begin after Ramadan, with completion expected by the end of the year. The project, aimed at improving infrastructure, will be managed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The work will upgrade the road from the MTCC Hulhumalé ferry terminal to the local market, including widening it to two lanes at each end, requiring reclamation and sheet piling. Essential infrastructure beneath the road will also be completed as part of the project.
While this development is separate from the Chinese-funded road project in Malé and Vilimale, it will be financed through the government’s budget. The government also plans to redevelop Sultan Park near the official jetty.
The project is expected to ease traffic flow and enhance safety for both residents and visitors.
